Blurr-tastic

May 15th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

I’m going through a love for blur mode right now. Especially with city lights and when you can’t hold the camera steady enough. Just in case it’s too blurry, the first one is overlooking the Maunalua harbor in Hawaii Kai and the second is just street and traffics lights, some car lights as well. In the shape of hearts! It’s a love street. Well…if it were, I hope it’s a nice love street.

I also love square format. I miss my old Hasselblad and film.

Honestly, everyday, I have no idea what to put on here. I think I’m becoming blinded by some kind of pressure of what is artistic vs. what is eye candy. What are the traits that makes art beautiful and what is art?

Thbbbt.

Peaceable Times

Yesterday, my mom and I had lunch in Nu’uanu-which is an area of town I swear could be compared to a less busy version of Vietnam. We had lunch in a large green garage Thai restaurant. Thai tea and summer rolls, oh yum. On the way, we stopped over at one of the larger Korean Churches on the island. It’s next to a Hongwanji Missionary School and the Buddhist Academy.

Sorry it’s so small! Click above for a larger view :) I was plugged into my iPod while aimlessly shooting, listening to Bon Iver-sort of a new hippie, sub pop band. Makes you think of being in grassy fields mottled with wild flowers, birds, twirling, open roads, 1960s Chevy trucks; all that wholesome, American-Kerouac-day stuff.

I didn’t make it much farther than outside the balcony today. Will venture outside tomorrow for a closer look at the real world.

Tension

I think anxiety attacks are most noticeable through the hands or marks left by hands, unless you’re the one having one, then it’s probably the jarring palpitations of the heart which are most noticeable.

Oh, and this montage is definitely crooked. Not intentionally! I just haven’t yet mastered the simple things on Photoshop.

This might make an intense postcard…

Click and then click so you don’t have to squint.

Happiness

Overcast days are nice for taking pictures, they don’t wash out colors.

I don’t feel too great about these-I mean, it was nice to get out of the house due to pleasant weather, but most of them have too much of a commercial tone. Either way, it gave me some practice taking pictures of people incognito.

I should also start using a proper camera.

Room 1

Name: Jane. Age: 70. Lives in a two patient rest home.

She sits on a chair on one end of the room closest to the windows watching the television with the fan on and a cup of diet coke with ice. Jane always keeps her cellphone closest to her in case her family calls. On a small table perpendicular to her is a basket of pink carnations she received for Mother’s Day. Sometimes she is a bit naughty and skips her doctor appointments and sticks her tongue out to her carer when he tells her to drink more water.

Hexagon Jam

Happy mother’s day!

This morning I made blackberry jam because blackberries are my mum’s favorite fruit. I didn’t know you could substitute lemon rind for pectin. Good to know. I always thought making jams took hours but they don’t! For the recipe, check out Baking Powders‘ food blog.

Big hugs and kisses for both my moms.

Reflected In Their Natural State

Just little bit of the day reflected in a mirror.

I keep seeing these great faces and I keep failing to ask somehow if it’s okay to photograph them. Rrggh.

More thunder showers and heavy rains.

Hey, Hot Shot is having an International Photography Competition. Good luck!

Can someone explain fine art photography to me, please?

Lay Down With Me

Got to make this quick because I’m not on my own laptop! I was nervous I wouldn’t have a decent picture to post today. Well, it’s not a very creative photo, but I like how these two knick-knacks were in the the windowsill and how the butterfly looks contemplative. Overall, it’s quite moody.

Inspired photographers check out the Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society. Amazing!
